Overview
VeDi 2025 is an Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MISE) funded research project between Centro Ricerche Fiat (CRF, Stellantis) and the University of Trento. The goal is a motion planner that lets two or more autonomous vehicles negotiate a shared maneuver - a merge, an overtake, an intersection crossing - before either of them commits to it, using Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication to exchange intent.
What I worked on
My contribution focused on the planning side: formulating maneuver negotiation as an optimization problem where each vehicle proposes a trajectory, checks it against the intentions broadcast by nearby vehicles, and converges on a jointly feasible set of maneuvers rather than reacting to whatever the other vehicle happens to do. The planner runs online, so the negotiation has to converge fast enough to still be useful by the time the vehicles reach the interaction point.
